Duplicate SKUs

Duplicate SKUs email alerts

Occasionally you may receive an email regarding duplicate SKUs that need to be merged. While you can have many different products linked to the same SKU in Shopify, our system can only accommodate one variant for a single SKU. Duplicate SKUs can be created for many reasons. The most common reason is from apps like Recharge which can occasionally push over duplicate SKUs.  When duplicates are pushed over to Shippingtree they will need to be merged. Most of the time the system will take care of the duplicate SKU on the backend. Whenever you receive this email, you will want to reach out to us so that we can assure that they are merged properly.

Creating new products in Shopify

When creating new products in Shopify, you will want to avoid using the duplicate product feature. When you duplicate a product, the SKU pushes over to Shippingtree and is merged to the original product before you make any edits to the new product. This results in the two products being merged before the SKU on the new product is changed. Once the new product is updated it is still mapped to the original product, and this can cause mapping issues on the backend.

SKU changes in Shopify

Changing SKUs in Shopify can often cause duplicate SKU issues. It can also impact the mapping on the backend. It is best to reach out ahead of time regarding any SKU changes so we can help the process run smoothly.

It is also recommended to run test orders anytime you have made changes to products and SKUs in Shopify to assure that things are mapped properly.
