How to Create a Project (Kitting)
ShippingTree is capable of building kits (single SKUs that are formed by the combination of various products) through our ‘project’ feature on our app. Use the following steps to create a project inside the ShippingTree dash:
- First, you must import or create the ‘final’ product SKU. This is often some sort of variety pack, subscription box, basket, etc. In the example below, we’ll use a variety pack of soaps (note that a kit arrives ‘un-kitted’. That is, the soaps, box and any custom packaging material arrive to the warehouse separately, thus the need for a kitting project)
- Inside the product page, select ‘Update BOM’ from the box near the left hand rail
- Select the items and quantities needed to build the completed kit, and select ‘update’. In this case, we will add quantity one of three different soaps. This will create a finalized Bill of Materials (BOM) on the product page (you can update the BOM using the ‘Update BOM’ bottom in this box as well
- Now that the BOM is created, it’s time to request that it gets built. Do this by selecting ‘Build BOM’ near the upper left hand box of the product page (you can also update the BOM from this box as well by selecting ‘Update BOM’).
- Inside the next page, you will need to select the total quantity desired for the kitted/final SKU. The total that you will be able to request made will be the highest common denominator of quantity among the products in the Bill of Materials. In the example below, the max amount is 48 units
- Next, you will need to select a Project Deadline. The earliest you can select will be three full business days from the date of the project creation. If there is no rush on the order, more time is better, so select a date at any point in the future. Select ‘Create Project’ and then you are done.
- To make sure the project was entered correctly, select the ‘Projects’ tab on the left hand rail of the ShippingTree App
- Locate the project you just created and double check to make sure it has the correct items and quantities.
- Inside the Project, most of the tabs, information and workflows are for internal purposes. There are two useful tools for you, the merchant: Reduce Quantity and Project Instructions. If you need to reduce the amount of kits being made or add notes to the project (i.e. please make sure item A is placed facing down), you can use the two buttons marked below in red
- That’s it. You can check in on the progress and billing of the project in the same link mentioned above. You can also reach out to our support team if you need help setting up a project.
