How to Create Packaging Rules

ShippingTree is proud to provide our customers the ability to include custom packaging materials with their orders to help curate the unboxing experience for end consumers.

To include special packaging with any order, Packaging Rules must be set up by doing the following:

  1. Click the gear icon near the upper right rail

  2. Select ‘Packaging Rules’ from the drop down

  3. Select ‘Add Packaging Rule’ near the top right corner
  4. Fill in all appropriate fields:

    • ‘Exact Sku Match‘: to enable the rule for an exact SKU, put in the full SKU here
    • ‘Partial SKU Match‘: to enable the rule for a partial SKU match alphanumerically, enter the common SKU characters here (i.e. all sweatshirt variations uniquely contain “12345” to begin the SKU ID, enter “12345” here
    • “Package“: select the package/box to be used for this rule (Note: if the order’s items will not fit into that box, the ShippingTree team will use their discretion to pack the order)
    • “Apply to All Orders“: check this box if this Packaging Rule should apply for all orders (versus those selected by exact or partial SKU match)
    • “Enabled“: this effectively turns this packaging rule on (the packaging rule will not trigger unless this box is checked)
  5. Click ‘Create’ and you’re done.

Sometimes you’ll have items that may need to be shipped with extra special care.  It’s important when you have items that need special packaging to set up packaging rules for those items.  For example, if you’re shipping a vinyl record, you’ll want to specify that it’s shipped in a vinyl record box.

To set up packaging rules, click the cog wheel in the top right corner of your ShippingTree app and select “ Packaging Rules”.  Click “Create Rule”. Select whether the packaging needs to be associated with all orders or just certain SKUs. Make sure to “Enable” the rule before clicking “Save”.
