Getting Started with EDI on Kase
Welcome to Kase’s EDI platform! This article outlines how to connect your systems to Kase via an EDI service provider like SPS Commerce or TrueCommerce. We’ll walk you through the steps needed to begin exchanging warehouse order data (940s and 945s) and get your retailer connections live. Kase uses Orderful as the integration platform—no need to set up an account, we’ll handle it for you.
🔧 Step 1: Gather Required Information
Before we can initiate your EDI connection, please provide the following details so our team can create your trading profile and send the appropriate setup request:
- EDI Account Name
- EDI Provider (e.g., SPS Commerce, TrueCommerce)
- EDI Point of Contact Name & Email
- ISA Qualifier
- ISA ID
- Preferred EDI Connection Type (e.g., AS2, VAN, etc.)
- Retail Trading Partners you’ll be working with
- EDI Requirements / Implementation Guide (optional at this stage; required after the trading request is created)
Once we have this information, our team will send you a trade request through Orderful.
🧩 Step 2: Set Up with Your EDI Service Provider
A Managed EDI Service Provider helps connect your systems to Kase and your retail partners, facilitating automated and reliable exchange of EDI documents.
Common EDI Providers:
- SPS Commerce
- TrueCommerce
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure your provider supports 3PL/warehouse integrations
- Share GS1 Company Prefix and ISA/GS details
- Work with your provider to define retailer-specific mapping guidelines, including the expected structure for each transaction type.
EDI Transactions Involved:
- 940 – Warehouse Shipping Order → Sent from your EDI provider to Kase
- 945 – Warehouse Shipping Advice ← Sent from Kase back to your EDI provider
- 856 – Advance Ship Notice → Not supported by Kase. Instead, the 945 we send will automatically trigger the 856 through your EDI provider (e.g., SPS or TrueCommerce).
🔁 Step 3: Kase Trade Request via Orderful
Kase uses Orderful to manage EDI message exchange. You don’t need to create an account—we’ll initiate the connection.
What to Expect:
Once your EDI details are submitted, our team will send a trade request via Orderful. You'll receive an email prompting you to confirm key information and upload your EDI documentation.
You’ll need to:
- Confirm your EDI Account Name and Support Contact Email
- Indicate if you're using Kase’s EDI guidelines or custom mappings
- Confirm trading partner info:
- Company Name: Kase
- ISA Qualifier/ISA ID: Provided by Kase team
- Kase EDI Support Email: support@shippingtree.co
🚦 Step 4: Testing & Go-Live
Once your trade request is active and documentation is uploaded, testing will begin.
Required Test Messages:
- 940 – Warehouse Shipping Order
- 945 – Warehouse Shipping Advice
Our team will verify that:
- SKU data is mapped correctly
- Transaction formatting aligns with retailer requirements
- All test cases are successful before going live
EDI Interface Access:
- Track and monitor test messages
- View raw EDI data
- See detailed error messages if something doesn’t process
Troubleshooting:
If any test messages fail due to issues like unrecognized SKUs or invalid formatting, we’ll send feedback through the EDI interface. You can then reprocess corrected messages.
Transition to Production:
Once testing is complete and approved, we’ll enable live production mode. From there:
- 940s will trigger warehouse shipping orders
- Kase will send 945 (Warehouse Shipping Advice) once shipments are completed
- Your EDI provider will then send the 856 to the retailer
